Windows Error Repair – Error Code 646

Are you experiencing a Windows Update Error Code 646? Is it beginning to be a pain? What is error code 646 and can it be fixed? This error usually comes to light when you try to update Windows XP or Vista on your computer. Some may even say this error is not reversible and there is no help.

This is what error code 646 means:
The system is booting into safe mode and therefore the driver was not loaded. You may also see the error as “Error_Not_Safe_Mode_Driver” or as the value 0×286.

The Error Code 646 is a critical Windows error that is caused by a distorted entry to your registry. You do need to fix this error immediately to avoid further distortion to other hardware and/or applications. The risks involve blue screen errors, failure to hardware and possible crashes.

The symptoms of error code 646 are start up or shut down issues, program lock ups, sluggish behavior, slow PC performance, beeping sounds, issues with installing software, screen freeze as well as issues with opening documents and security risk.

When your registry is corrupt it becomes easier to break through securities in the Windows area. Known for exploiting these break through s are malicious software such as adware, viruses and spyware. Sensitive user data becomes high risk and leaves you open to identity theft. This is why it is important to check for malicious software after repairing the Windows registry.

(Note: Making edits to the registry can cause your computer not to run right so make sure you know what you are doing if you are going to make registry edits.)

If you don’t want to take the time to do the manual fixes or you don’t want to mess up the registry, there is software you can use, and there is a small cost associated with this, but it has saved me a ton of time in fixing these kind of errors.

Errors really aren’t as bad as they appear to be once you can figure out what caused the error in the first place and was prevented from updating, because this is an update error.

1. Open the Start Menu>All Programs tab>Windows Update
2. View Update History option>this will tell you the updates that didn’t update completely or failed all together.
3. Click on the failed update to gain more insight
4. Inside the “Windows Update” box, located next to “Error details”, you will be able to read the error codes for the updates that didn’t download and get more information with the Windows Support

If this does not work go to Windows help and Support. They provide good information on issues and error advice as well as tips for PC optimization. When your PC runs fully optimized it will prevent other errors and problems in the future.

If you’re still not having any luck try a system restore. This program can bring your PC back in time.

1. Start Menu
2) All Programs menu
3) Look for the Accessories option, and open it
4) Go to System Tools
5) Look for the System Restore Icon, open it and follow the steps from there!

This brings your PC, your files, updates, some settings back to the point in time you chose. It will also re-boot and refresh your PC. After it starts back up try the updates once again and see if you get better results.
